Math: This week we will be finishing up topic 1 and taking the topic 1 test this Thursday. Topic 1 has been a review of what they have learned about adding and subtraction from first grade. We have also been doing a lot of addition story problems and this week the students will be creating a flap book of a subtraction story problem.

HOMEWORK: Please complete the attached homework sheet and return it to school on Friday.

Science/SOCIAL STUDIES: We starting a rock unit for the month of September at the end of this week. More info will be coming about the Rock Unit next week. This week we will be finishing up character education and discussing what it means to “fill up someone’s bucket.” If you are confused as to what that means please ask your child. ☺ It was a really fun a great lesson and I am sure they will want to tell you all about it.

Writing: This last week we began to talk about correct punctuation for a sentence and having a capital always at the beginning of a sentence. This week we will be learning green light-red light; which is a great activity to let them review what they know about capitals and punctuation.

Reading: Second grade students should be reading an average of 20 minutes per night or 100 minutes each night. Students may read aloud to their parents, parents may read aloud to their student, or students may read silently on their own.

HOMEWORK: Please record the number of minutes your child spends reading each day on the chart below and return it to school on Friday.
